Benchmark Abrasives Cross Pads: The Ultimate Solution for Precision Grinding and Polishing in Metalworking and Welding

In the world of metalworking and welding, having the right abrasive tools can make a significant difference in the quality of your work. Among the myriad of abrasives available, Abrasive Cross Pads stand out as a specialty product designed for superior performance in precision grinding, polishing, and finishing. These versatile tools are particularly effective in areas where traditional abrasives, such as flap discs and grinding wheels, fall short.

What Are Abrasive Cross Pads?

Abrasive Cross Pads are uniquely designed abrasives with overlapping flaps that provide flexibility and adaptability. This construction allows the pads to conform to different shapes and diameters, making them ideal for grinding and polishing inside pipes, tubes, holes, and cylinders. The overlapping flaps, which are impregnated with abrasive grains, ensure consistent contact with the surface, enhancing efficiency and providing a smoother finish.

Key Benefits of Abrasive Cross Pads

VERSATILE APPLICATION – The distinct design of Abrasive Cross Pads makes them incredibly versatile. They can be used for a range of applications, including:

  • Grinding: Efficiently removing material from metal surfaces.
  • Polishing: Achieving a high-quality finish on various metalwork pieces.
  • Deburring: Removing burrs from the edges of metal parts.
  • Close-Tolerance Blending: Ensuring seamless transitions between different areas of a workpiece.

PRECISION IN TIGHT SPACES – One of the standout features of Abrasive Cross Pads is their ability to access and work within tight and hard-to-reach spaces. This ability is crucial for tasks involving:

  • Irregular Channels: Navigating and finishing the interior surfaces of complex channels.
  • Bell Mouth Configurations: Working inside bell-shaped openings.
  • Inside Contours: Maintaining precision in curved or contoured surfaces.
  • Fillets and Corners: Perfectly blending and smoothing fillets and corners.

ENHANCED FLEXIBILITY – The overlapping flap design of Abrasive Cross Pads provides flexibility to conform to the shape and diameter of the surface it is applied to. This flexibility ensures consistent contact, even on irregular surfaces, leading to a more uniform and polished finish.

Choosing the Right Abrasive Cross Pad for Your Application

Selecting the appropriate Abrasive Cross Pad for your specific needs involves considering several factors:

  • Abrasive Material: Different materials (such as aluminum oxide, zirconia alumina, or ceramic) offer varying levels of aggressiveness and durability.  Benchmark Abrasives currently only offers cross pads in AO; if you are looking for another grain option email us for a custom quote.
  • Grit Size: The grit size determines the coarseness of the abrasive. Finer grits provide smoother finishes, while coarser grits are ideal for material removal.

o   Coarse (36-60 Grit): For removing heavy material and rough sanding.

o   Medium (80-120 Grit): Perfect for intermediate sanding and blending.

o   Fine (150-3000 Grit): For finishing and smoothing tasks.

  • Pad Size: The diameter of the pad should match the size of the area you are working on to ensure optimal performance.

Cross Pads Available at Benchmark Abrasives

Cross pads are small abrasive sheets arranged in a cross design. They are made to be used on the drill or die grinder with mandrel attached. The cross pads provide excellent finishing and allow users to see through the contact area. These cross pads are ideal for fast grinding or polishing on channels, deburring the ends, corners, or spotting on flat surfaces. Generally, cross pads are used for close-tolerance polishing and deburring the ends and insides of tubing and for smoothing and finishing bell-mouth configurations. We have different sizes of aluminum oxide cross pads.

  • Sizes: 1”, 1-1/2”, 2” and 3”
  • Arbor Attachments: ¼”-20 THR, 3/48” and 8/32”

Tool Compatibility: Rotary Drills and Die Grinders
