Benchmark Abrasives 5" x .040" x 7/8" T1 high performance 4X ceramic cutting wheels are our premium option for demanding 5" metal-cutting applications. The ultra-thin .040" profile creates a narrow kerf with minimal material removal, while the 5" diameter provides additional cutting reach for fabrication, welding, maintenance, and production work.
Built with ceramic abrasive grain, these flat Type 1 wheels are designed for cutting steel, stainless steel, and other approved metals. The combination of premium abrasive construction, a thin cutting profile, and additional 5" reach makes them a strong choice for tubing, pipe, sheet metal, fasteners, structural components, and fabricated assemblies where efficient, controlled cutting is the priority.
The 7/8" arbor is designed for compatible 5" angle grinders, but machine speed is especially important with this wheel. Its maximum rating is 10,200 RPM, so it must not be used on a grinder whose maximum rated speed exceeds 10,200 RPM simply because the wheel diameter and arbor fit.

Machine Compatibility
Designed for compatible 5" angle grinders that accept a 7/8" arbor Type 1 cut-off wheel and whose maximum rated machine speed does not exceed 10,200 RPM.
Compatible examples include:
- Makita® GA5020 (11,000 RPM), fitted with the correct 5" Type 1 cut-off guard and cutting-wheel flanges
- Bosch® GWS13-50 (11,500 RPM)
- DEWALT® DCG418 (9,000 RPM)
- Metabo® WEPBA 17-125 Quick RT DS (10,000 RPM, North American version)
- Dual-capacity 4-1/2"/5" grinders only when the manufacturer specifically approves the machine and installed guard for 5" wheels
Do not use this wheel on an 11,000 or 12,000 RPM grinder. A variable-speed control does not by itself make a higher-speed grinder suitable for an under-rated wheel.
Always verify wheel capacity, arbor size, machine maximum RPM, flange configuration, mounting hardware, and the correct Type 1 cut-off guard before operation.
Safety Tips
- Use this wheel for cutting only. Do not grind with the side of the wheel.
- Never exceed the wheel's 10,200 RPM maximum speed.
- Do not mount the wheel on a grinder whose maximum rated speed exceeds 10,200 RPM.
- Always use the proper Type 1 cut-off wheel guard.
- Use the correct flanges and mounting hardware specified for the grinder.
- Inspect the wheel before use and do not operate cracked, chipped, damaged, or improperly stored wheels.
- Keep the wheel straight in the cut and avoid side loading.
- Do not force or twist the wheel through the workpiece.
