Product Specification

6" X 1/2" X 1" FLANNEL CUSHION SEWN BUFFING WHEEL

When the goal is maximum gloss with minimal cutting, reach for our flannel cushion sewn buffing wheel. Made in the USA from extremely soft flannel, this wheel is designed for final coloring and delicate polishing where preserving the surface is more important than material removal.

The cushion-sewn construction provides enough support for controlled polishing while remaining soft and conformable against the workpiece. Pair it with the appropriate fine finishing compound for a bright, highly reflective finish on soft metals, precious metals, plated surfaces, and other delicate materials.

  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Chrome and nickel-plated surfaces
  • Other delicate surfaces where minimal material removal is desired

Cut Very Low
Gloss Very High
Stage Final Polish / Coloring
Wheel Firmness Very Soft
Best For Maximum luster with minimal surface removal

Tip: This is a finishing wheel. If scratches, oxidation, sanding marks, or other imperfections still need to be removed, complete those steps with a firmer buffing wheel and cutting compound before switching to flannel.

6" x 1/2" x 1" Flannel Cushion Sewn Buffing Wheel

For best results, dedicate one buffing wheel to each compound to prevent coarse compound residue from contaminating your final polishing step.

Safety Tips & Techniques

  • Apply a small amount of compound to the spinning wheel rather than overloading it.
  • Use light pressure and allow the wheel and compound to produce the finish.
  • Keep the workpiece moving to help control heat buildup.
  • Clean the workpiece before changing compounds or polishing stages.
  • Wear appropriate eye, hearing, respiratory, and hand protection.
  • Keep applicable machine guards in place.
  • Never exceed the operating limits of the wheel, machine, spindle, or mounting system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Flannel buffing wheels are primarily used for the final polishing or coloring stage. Their very soft construction produces high gloss while removing very little material.
Not as a first step. This wheel has very little cutting action. Remove scratches and sanding marks with the appropriate cutting compound and a firmer buffing wheel before moving to flannel for the final finish.
Yes. The wheel carries the polishing compound against the surface. Choose the compound based on the material and the polishing stage you are performing.
We recommend dedicating one wheel to one compound. Mixing compounds on the same wheel can transfer coarser abrasive particles into a finer polishing stage and reintroduce scratches.
Flannel is generally softer and less aggressive than cotton. Cotton wheels can be used through a wider range of cutting and coloring operations depending on their construction, while flannel is best reserved for delicate final polishing and maximum gloss.
Yes, flannel can be an excellent final-polishing material for compatible plastics when paired with a plastic-specific compound. Use light pressure, control operating speed, and minimize heat buildup because plastics can soften or distort when overheated.
This 6" wheel has a 1" arbor and is primarily intended for compatible bench buffers, polishing motors, bench grinders configured for buffing, and similar rotary equipment. Arbor adapters are available separately for certain smaller spindle sizes.
