2" X 72" CERAMIC SANDING BELT STARTER KIT - 24 BELTS
The Benchmark Abrasives 2" x 72" ceramic sanding belt starter kit gives knife makers and metal fabricators a ready-to-use assortment for steel stock removal, blade profiling, bevel grinding, and surface refinement. The kit includes 24 Made in USA ceramic belts—six each in 36, 60, 80, and 120 grit—so you can move from aggressive grinding into progressively finer refinement without buying full quantities of each grit.
Ceramic abrasive grain is built for demanding steel grinding, while the included grit progression covers the key stages most makers use during shaping and bevel work. A tube of belt grease is also included for use where appropriate in your sanding process.

Materials & Applications
Best For: Knife makers and fabricators working through steel stock removal, blade profiling, bevel grinding, shaping, and refinement.
Common applications include:
- Blade profiling
- Rough bevel grinding
- Bevel shaping and refinement
- Steel stock removal
- Deburring
- Edge cleanup
- Surface preparation
- Scratch refinement
- Knife making
- General metal fabrication
Suggested Grit Progression
36 Grit — Very Coarse
Use for the heaviest material removal, blade profiling, and rough shaping.
60 Grit — Coarse
Use for continued stock removal, bevel shaping, and refining the deeper scratch pattern left by 36 grit.
80 Grit — Medium
Use for controlled grinding, blending, edge cleanup, and further scratch refinement.
120 Grit — Fine
Use for finer surface refinement and preparing the blade or workpiece for subsequent finishing steps.
This is a practical starting progression, not a fixed grinding recipe. Steel type, starting geometry, grinder setup, and desired finish can all affect the sequence.
Machine Compatibility
Designed for machines using a nominal 2" x 72" sanding belt, including dedicated knife grinders and fabrication belt grinders.

Always confirm your machine's required belt dimensions, configuration, and operating-speed requirements before use.
Tips for Better Belt Performance
- Use 36 grit only when the work requires aggressive material removal.
- Progress through 60, 80, and 120 grit as the blade or workpiece approaches the next finishing stage.
- Preserve the intended blade and bevel geometry as you move through the grit progression.
- Allow the ceramic abrasive to do the cutting rather than relying on excessive pressure.
- Keep the belt properly tracked and inspect it before use.
- Use the included belt grease only where appropriate for the abrasive, machine, and application.
- If using the belts wet, confirm the grinder and application are approved for wet operation.
- Always follow the grinder manufacturer's guarding and PPE requirements.
