4-1/2" X 4" SPIRAL SEWN MUSLIN BUFFING DRUM
Create a smooth, refined finish across large metal surfaces with our 4-1/2" x 4" spiral sewn muslin buffing drum. Its soft, flexible muslin construction conforms easily to the workpiece and is designed for the finer stages of polishing where developing luster and minimizing aggressive cutting action are the priorities. The wide 4" face provides efficient coverage across panels, plate, tubing, and fabricated assemblies while helping produce a clean, consistent finish.
A major advantage of the 4-1/2" x 4" drum system is its ability to produce a straight-line finish rather than the circular or orbital patterns commonly left by DA sanders and angle grinders. Pair this softer muslin drum with the appropriate fine polishing or coloring compound after the surface has been properly refined. It is especially useful when transitioning from surface preparation or a firmer polishing drum toward a bright, high-gloss finish.

Machines Used On
Designed for compatible:
- Surface finishing machines
- Linear grinders
- Burnishers
- Contouring grinders
- Drum sanding and polishing machines
Drum-style finishing allows the operator to work consistently in one direction, making these machines particularly useful when a uniform straight-line grain or finish is desired.
This drum requires a compatible keyed drum-mounting system. Confirm machine compatibility before use.
Not intended for electric drills.
Materials & Applications
Best For
- Aluminum
- Brass
- Copper
- Stainless steel
- Steel
- Other ferrous and non-ferrous metals compatible with the selected polishing compound
Common Applications
- Fine polishing after surface refinement
- Coloring and luster development
- Straight-line finishing
- Refining fine polishing haze or marks
- Preparing a surface for high-gloss finishing
- Stainless steel panels and decorative surfaces
- Sheet metal and plate
- Tubing and curved components
- Large fabricated assemblies
- Broad flat or contoured surfaces
Because the polishing compound provides much of the actual abrasive action, select the compound according to the material, starting surface, and desired finish.

Tip: Use this drum when the surface is already well refined and the goal is to improve clarity, luster, and finish quality rather than aggressively remove material.
Work the drum consistently in the direction of the desired grain to maintain an even straight-line appearance.

For best results, dedicate one drum to each compound to prevent contamination from more aggressive polishing stages.
Safety Tips & Techniques
- Never exceed the 4,000 RPM maximum operating speed.
- Use only with a compatible drum-style finishing machine.
- Use dry only.
- Work in a consistent direction to maintain a uniform straight-line finish.
- Apply buffing compound sparingly.
- Use controlled pressure and allow the drum and compound to perform the polishing.
- Keep the drum moving evenly to control heat and maintain finish consistency.
- Clean the workpiece before changing compounds or polishing stages.
- Use extra care around edges, corners, seams, and projections.
- Confirm that the drum is securely mounted before use.
-
- Keep applicable machine guards in place.
