Product Specification

5" X .045" X 7/8" T1 PREMIUM THIN CUT-OFF WHEEL - 25 PACK

Benchmark Abrasives 5" x .045" x 7/8" T1 premium thin cut-off wheels are built for fast, controlled metal cutting with added reach over standard 4-1/2" wheels. The thin .045" profile keeps the kerf narrow while the larger 5" diameter provides greater cutting depth, making this wheel a strong choice for fabrication, welding, maintenance, and repair work.

Made with aluminum oxide abrasive grain, these flat Type 1 wheels are designed for cutting steel, stainless steel, and other approved metals. They use the same standard cutting-wheel formula as our BM-CO4540_25 4-1/2" wheel, giving customers a familiar cutting platform in a larger 5" size for tubing, pipe, sheet metal, fasteners, structural components, and fabricated assemblies.

The 7/8" arbor is designed for compatible 5" angle grinders equipped for Type 1 cut-off wheel use. Because wheel diameter matters just as much as arbor size, use this wheel only on grinders specifically rated for 5" wheels and equipped with the correct cut-off guard, flanges, and mounting hardware.

Bottom line, these cut off wheels offer LESS cutting resistance for fast work, LESS work piece waste, LESS vibration, LESS burrs and sparks and LESS dust than the competition

Materials & Applications

Recommended Materials:

  • Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Other approved metals

Best For:

  • Cutting tubing and pipe
  • Cutting sheet metal
  • Structural and fabricated components
  • Trimming bolts and fasteners
  • Welding and fabrication
  • Automotive and equipment repair
  • Maintenance operations
  • General-purpose metal cutting

Machine Compatibility

Designed for compatible 5" angle grinders that accept a 7/8" arbor Type 1 cut-off wheel and are specifically rated for 5" wheel capacity.

Compatible examples include:

  • Makita® GA5020 (11,000 RPM), fitted with the correct 5" Type 1 cut-off guard and cutting-wheel flanges
  • Bosch® GWS13-50 (11,500 RPM)
  • DEWALT® DCG418 (9,000 RPM)
  • Metabo® WEPBA 17-125 Quick RT DS (10,000 RPM, North American version)
  • Dual-capacity 4-1/2"/5" grinders only when the manufacturer specifically approves the machine and installed guard for 5" wheels

Do not install this wheel on a grinder limited to 4-1/2" wheels simply because the arbor fits. Always verify wheel capacity, arbor size, maximum RPM, flange configuration, mounting hardware, and the correct Type 1 cut-off guard before operation.

Safety Tips

  • Use this wheel for cutting only. Do not grind with the side of the wheel.
  • Never exceed the wheel's 12,225 RPM maximum speed.
  • Use only on machines specifically rated for 5" wheels.
  • Always use the proper Type 1 cut-off wheel guard.
  • Use the correct flanges and mounting hardware specified for the grinder.
  • Inspect the wheel before use and do not operate cracked, chipped, damaged, or improperly stored wheels.
  • Keep the wheel straight in the cut and avoid side loading.
  • Do not force or twist the wheel through the workpiece.
  • Wear appropriate eye and face protection, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE required for the application.

Frequently Asked Questions

A 5" wheel provides greater cutting reach than a 4-1/2" wheel while maintaining a thin profile for controlled metal cutting.
The .045" profile keeps the cut narrow while providing a practical balance of cutting performance and wheel body for fabrication and general metalworking.
No. This wheel uses the same standard aluminum oxide cutting-wheel formula as the BM-CO4540_25 4-1/2" wheel.
No. This is a Type 1 cut-off wheel intended strictly for edge cutting. Do not apply grinding pressure to the side of the wheel.
Only if the exact grinder and installed guard are specifically rated by the manufacturer for 5" wheels. A matching arbor does not make an undersized grinder compatible.
Compatible examples include Makita® GA5020 (11,000 RPM), Bosch® GWS13-50 (11,500 RPM), DEWALT® DCG418 (9,000 RPM), and Metabo® WEPBA 17-125 Quick RT DS (10,000 RPM, North American version). Each is below this wheel's 12,225 RPM limit. Use the correct 5" Type 1 cutting guard and flanges for the 7/8" bore. Other models may also meet these requirements.
