ECONOMY TITANIUM COATED STEP DRILL BIT 1/4"–3/4" – 9 STEPS
Create 9 clean, precise hole sizes from 1/4" through 3/4" with one economy TiN-coated step drill bit. Designed for drilling and enlarging holes in thin materials, this bit eliminates repeated drill-bit changes while producing clean, controlled holes in sheet metal, aluminum, copper, plastic, wood, and other compatible materials. Its 1/4" quick-change shank is optimized for impact-driver use while also working with compatible electric rotary drills.
The high-speed steel body features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for enhanced cutting speed and wear resistance, while the self-centering split point helps reduce walking as the cut begins. A spiral double-flute design improves chip removal and helps extend cutting life, and the stepped profile progressively drills and reams the hole to the desired diameter in one operation. Ideal for clean hole-making in metal up to 1/4" thick and other thin materials.

Keep the bit at approximately 90° to the work surface.
Progress through the steps gradually rather than forcing the bit.
Use steady pressure and allow the cutting edges to do the work.
Select drilling speed according to the material and hole diameter.
Use an appropriate cutting lubricant when drilling metals.
Periodically clear chips to reduce heat buildup.
Do not use hammer action when drilling with a hammer drill/driver.
Secure the shank according to the tool’s chuck instructions and check retention before drilling.
Frequently Asked Questions
It produces 9 hole sizes: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 11/16", and 3/4".
It has a high-speed steel body with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating.
The titanium nitride coating provides added surface hardness and wear resistance while supporting faster cutting performance.
The spiral double flutes help move chips away from the cutting area efficiently, supporting cleaner cutting and longer bit life.
Yes. The progressive steps allow an existing hole to be enlarged gradually until the desired diameter is reached.
It is designed for clean hole-making with minimal burrs in suitable thin materials including aluminum, wood, copper, plastic, and sheet metal.
The 1/4" quick-change shank fits drill chucks such as those on the DEWALT® DCD800, Makita® XFD14Z and Bosch® GSR18V-400, plus 1/4" hex impact drivers such as the Milwaukee® 2953-20 and DEWALT® DCF845. Other compatible models can also be used. Choose a tool rated for your material and hole size. Use rotary-only mode on hammer drills.
Up to 1/4" in suitable metal, provided the selected step is long enough to pass through the workpiece without engaging the next diameter. Choose the drilling speed and lubricant for your material and hole size.
Select speed according to both the material and the diameter being cut. Larger diameters and harder materials generally require slower, more controlled operation.
