3" FELT POLISHING QUICK CHANGE DISCS - 10 PACK

Cover more surface area while keeping the portability and control of a quick-change polishing system with our 3" felt polishing quick change discs. The dense felt face provides a durable surface for carrying buffing compound, while the larger 3" diameter gives you faster coverage on broad surfaces than a 2" disc without moving to a conventional stationary buffing wheel. The R-Type quick-change connection also makes disc changes fast when moving between compounds or polishing stages.

These felt discs can be used through the entire cut → polish → finish process simply by changing compounds. Unlike an abrasive disc with a fixed grit, the felt itself does not determine the polishing stage—the compound does. Pair it with the appropriate cutting compound for initial refinement, then progress through intermediate and finishing compounds to achieve the desired level of luster and gloss.

Quantity: 10 Discs

Mandrel sold separately.

Product Features

  • Dense felt construction for controlled polishing
  • Can be used throughout the cut → polish → finish sequence by changing compounds
  • Larger 3" diameter provides faster coverage than smaller quick-change polishing discs
  • R-Type connection allows fast disc changes
  • Works with cutting, intermediate, coloring, and finishing compounds
  • No fixed abrasive grit—the compound determines the level of cut and finish
  • Useful for flat, curved, and contoured surfaces
  • 10-pack makes it easy to dedicate separate discs to different compounds
  • Reusable when kept clean and properly stored
  • Maximum operating speed of 25,000 RPM

Machines Used On

Designed for use with a compatible 3" Type R quick-change backing pad or mandrel on:

  • Pneumatic die grinders
  • Right-angle die grinders
  • Hand-held pneumatic grinders
  • Quick-change sanders
  • Other compatible rotary tools using the proper Type R mounting system

The 3" size is especially useful when you want the portability of a handheld polishing system with greater surface coverage than a 2" disc.

Materials & Applications

Best For

  • Stainless steel
  • Steel
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Other ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Compatible plastics and acrylics

Common Applications

  • Multi-stage metal polishing
  • Initial cutting with the appropriate compound
  • Intermediate polishing and luster development
  • Final coloring and high-gloss finishing
  • Larger flat or contoured surfaces
  • Sheet metal and fabricated components
  • Localized polishing
  • Curved and irregular surfaces

Polishing Performance

Cut Compound Dependent
Gloss Compound Dependent – Very High
Stage Cutting → Intermediate Polish → Final Finish
Felt Firmness Medium-Firm / Controlled
Coverage Medium–High
Best For Multi-stage handheld polishing with increased surface coverage

Tip: The felt disc itself does not have a fixed cutting level. A more aggressive compound increases cutting action, while progressively finer compounds move the same felt media toward higher gloss and final finishing.

3" Felt Polishing Quick Change Discs

For best results, dedicate one felt disc to each compound to prevent cross-contamination between polishing stages.

Safety Tips & Techniques

  • Use with a compatible 3" Type R quick-change backing pad or mandrel.
  • Never exceed the 25,000 RPM maximum operating speed.
  • Confirm the disc is fully secured before starting the tool.
  • Apply compound sparingly rather than heavily loading the felt.
  • Keep the disc moving to reduce localized heat buildup.
  • Clean the workpiece before changing compounds.
  • Use a separate disc for each compound whenever possible.
  • Wear appropriate eye, hearing, respiratory, and hand protection.
  • Use dry only.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Felt can be used throughout the entire polishing sequence. The compound determines whether the disc performs a cutting, intermediate-polishing, coloring, or final-finishing role.
Yes. Pair the felt with an appropriate cutting compound to perform the initial polishing stage before progressing to finer compounds.
The 3" diameter provides greater surface coverage than a 2" disc while retaining the control and portability of a handheld quick-change polishing system. It is a good choice for larger panels, fabricated parts, and broader surfaces.
Choose the 2" disc when access and tight-area control are the priority. Choose the 3" disc when you want faster coverage across larger surfaces. Both can perform the same multi-stage polishing process when paired with the appropriate compounds.
No. They are different polishing systems designed for different tools. Felt quick-change discs work well with die grinders and quick-change sanders, while conventional buffing wheels are suited to drills, bench buffers, and polishing motors. Both systems can accomplish a complete polishing sequence.
Yes. These discs contain no abrasive grain. The selected compound provides the cutting and polishing action.
Yes. We recommend one disc per compound to prevent coarse compound residue from contaminating finer polishing stages.
Use a 3" Type R Quick Change Backing Pad or Mandrel compatible with the disc's R-Type connection.
These discs work well on stainless steel, steel, aluminum, brass, copper, and other metals. They can also be used on compatible plastics and acrylics with the correct polishing compound.
The maximum operating speed is 25,000 RPM.
