USA MADE SANDING BELT & DISC CLEANING STICK
The Benchmark Abrasives sanding belt & disc cleaning stick removes built-up sanding debris from abrasive surfaces so loaded belts, discs, and sheets can keep cutting instead of being discarded prematurely. Simply bring the stick into contact with the operating abrasive to lift accumulated material and restore a cleaner cutting surface.
Made in USA and sized at 8" x 2" x 2", the large cleaning stick gives you plenty of material for repeated shop use. It works with sanding belts, sanding discs, drum sanders, abrasive sheets, skateboard grip tape, and even rubber-soled shoes, making it a simple addition to any sanding or fabrication setup.

For sanding applications, the cleaning stick is intended to remove material buildup that can clog the abrasive surface and reduce cutting efficiency.
How to Use
- Operate the sanding belt, disc, or other approved abrasive according to the machine manufacturer's instructions.
- Bring the cleaning stick into contact with the abrasive surface.
- Maintain contact for approximately 3–6 seconds, or only as long as needed to remove accumulated material.
- Remove the stick and inspect the abrasive before continuing work.
- Repeat when loading begins to reduce cutting performance.
Do not force the cleaning stick aggressively into the abrasive. Maintain a secure grip and keep hands clear of moving machine components.
When Should I Use a Cleaning Stick?
Use the cleaning stick when sanding debris begins filling the abrasive surface and reducing its ability to cut efficiently. Cleaning an abrasive before it becomes heavily loaded can help you get more usable work from belts and discs that still have abrasive grain remaining.
The current Benchmark listing states that cleaning sticks can provide up to 30–50% more abrasive life when used appropriately. Actual results will vary with abrasive type, work material, loading, pressure, machine setup, and operating conditions.
Cleaning Stick vs. Belt Butter
The two accessories address loading differently:
- Cleaning Stick: Used to remove material that has already accumulated on the abrasive surface.
- Belt Butter: Applied where appropriate to help reduce loading during sanding.
Choose the accessory based on the abrasive, material, machine, and application.
Safety Tips
- Keep machine guards in place during use.
- Wear the eye, hearing, and respiratory protection required for the job. Follow your machine's instructions for clothing and gloves around moving abrasives.
- Maintain control of the cleaning stick and keep hands away from moving belts, discs, wheels, and pinch points.
- Follow the sanding machine manufacturer's operating instructions.
- Confirm the abrasive and equipment are appropriate for cleaning-stick use before application.
