Tips for Better Belt Performance

  • Use these aluminum oxide belts for dry sanding only.
  • Progress through grits as needed rather than making unnecessarily large grit jumps.
  • Allow the abrasive to do the cutting rather than applying excessive pressure.
  • Keep the belt tracking correctly and inspect it before use.
  • A sanding belt cleaning stick can help remove accumulated material from the abrasive surface when appropriate.
  • Always use the guards and PPE required for your machine and application.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Benchmark recommends these aluminum oxide sanding belts for dry use only.
Yes. Aluminum oxide is especially useful for wood handle shaping, general sanding, and progressively refining scratch patterns with the finer grits. For heavier steel stock removal and aggressive blade grinding, Benchmark Abrasives ceramic or zirconia belts may be the better choice.
This belt is designed for machines that use 2" x 72" sanding belts. Examples include Kalamazoo® 2FS72/2FS72M, JET® J-4103, Grizzly® G1015, Burr King® 960-272, Beaumont Metal Works® KMG/KMG-TX, AmeriBrade® Fastback, and Pheer® PH454 x 8. Other machines using this belt size may also be compatible. Check your exact model and installed setup before ordering, and follow the machine and belt speed requirements.
Use 24–60 grit for heavier removal and shaping. Use 80–180 grit for smoothing and scratch refinement. Use 220–400 grit for finer finish preparation.
Yes. The belt is bi-directional, but follow your machine’s required running direction.
Choose aluminum oxide for versatile general sanding, wood handle work, and finer scratch refinement. Ceramic and zirconia are better positioned when your primary goal is more aggressive steel stock removal and grinding.
