2" X 72" CERAMIC SANDING BELT

The Benchmark Abrasives 2" x 72" ceramic sanding belt is a Made in USA abrasive belt built for demanding steel grinding and knife-making applications. Designed for the most common full-size knife grinder format, it is an excellent choice for blade profiling, bevel grinding, shaping, deburring, and heavy stock removal.

Ceramic abrasive grain is designed for aggressive cutting on steel while giving makers a useful progression from rough grinding into surface refinement. Choose 36 or 40 grit for the heaviest work, then move through 60, 80, and 120 grit as the blade or workpiece approaches the next finishing stage.

Tips for Better Belt Performance

  • Use 36–40 grit for aggressive profiling, bevel work, and heavy stock removal.
  • Progress through 60, 80, and 120 grit as the surface approaches the next grinding or finishing stage.
  • Allow the ceramic abrasive to do the cutting rather than relying on excessive pressure.
  • Keep the belt tracking correctly and inspect it before use.
  • If using the belt wet, confirm the machine and application are approved for wet operation.
  • Always use the guards and PPE required for your machine and application.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is designed for demanding steel grinding, including blade profiling, bevel grinding, shaping, stock removal, deburring, and metal fabrication.
Yes. The 2" x 72" format is widely used on dedicated knife grinders, and ceramic belts are well suited for aggressive blade profiling, bevel grinding, and steel shaping.
Use 36 grit for very coarse stock removal, 40–60 grit for coarse grinding and bevel shaping, 80 grit for medium blending and refinement, and 120 grit for finer surface preparation.
This belt is designed for machines that use 2" x 72" sanding belts. Examples include Kalamazoo® 2FS72/2FS72M, JET® J-4103, Grizzly® G1015, Burr King® 960-272, Beaumont Metal Works® KMG/KMG-TX, AmeriBrade® Fastback, and Pheer® PH454 x 8. Other machines using this belt size may also be compatible. Check your exact model and installed setup before ordering, and follow the machine and belt speed requirements.
Yes. The belt is designed for wet or dry use, but wet grinding should only be performed when the machine and application are approved for it.
Yes. The belt is bi-directional, but follow your machine’s required running direction.
Ceramic abrasive is particularly well suited for demanding steel grinding where aggressive cutting and efficient stock removal are important, making it a strong choice for profiling and bevel work.
Both are steel-focused abrasive options. Ceramic is especially well suited for demanding grinding and stock removal, while zirconia is another strong choice for shaping, grinding, and fabrication. Select the grain and grit that best match the machine, steel, and grinding step.
