Flap Wheel Abrasive Sanding Drum – Aluminum Oxide
Product Specification
FLAP WHEEL ABRASIVE SANDING DRUM – ALUMINUM OXIDE
The 4-1/2" x 4" Flap Wheel Abrasive Drum from Benchmark Abrasives is engineered for high-output stock removal and surface leveling on large metal parts. Its wide working face and rigid flap construction make it well suited for production environments where speed, control, and durability are critical.
This drum is built using heavy X-weight abrasive cloth combined with aluminum oxide grain to withstand sustained pressure and extended run time. The layered flap layout creates a stable cutting surface that balances aggression with control, making it effective for preparing parts prior to finer finishing steps.
As the drum operates, the overlapping flaps naturally wear to reveal new cutting edges, helping maintain uniform performance over the life of the abrasive. The design adapts well to irregular surfaces while remaining firm enough to tackle scale, mill residue, oxidation, coating buildup, and surface defects. It is commonly used for flattening weld areas, knocking down high spots, and stripping coatings before final finishing or polishing operations.

Safety Tips & Techniques:
- Apply light pressure and let the tool do the work. Bearing down on the tool will result in reduced tool life.
- Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection. Keep all guards in place on your machine.
- Avoid use on electric power drills; the slower speeds can result in chipping of your workpiece.
