The 4-1/2" x 4" Stripping Abrasive Drum from Benchmark Abrasives is designed for surface cleanup tasks where coatings, residue, and surface buildup need to be removed without chewing into the base material. It’s a practical solution for prep work that demands control rather than brute force.

This drum uses a resilient open-fiber abrasive structure combined with silicon carbide grain to attack surface contaminants while limiting heat and pressure at the contact point. The flexible web construction allows the drum to follow contours and edges, helping maintain part shape during stripping and cleanup operations.

Silicon carbide grain is known for its fast-cutting behavior and self-renewing fracture pattern, which keeps the abrasive working efficiently as it wears. Instead of relying on heavy pressure, the drum maintains cutting performance through grain breakdown, making it easier on both the operator and the workpiece.

The open structure of the drum encourages cooler operation and consistent performance in high-debris environments, where paint residue, adhesives, fillers, or rust would quickly clog denser abrasives. This makes it well suited for repeated stripping cycles without constant downtime for cleaning or replacement.

With a full 4-inch working width, the drum increases coverage compared to narrow stripping tools, reducing pass count and improving productivity on larger surfaces such as panels, weldments, and fabricated assemblies.

Safety Tips & Techniques:

• Apply light pressure and let the tool do the work. Bearing down on the tool will result in reduced tool life.
• Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection. Keep all guards in place on your machine.
• Avoid use on electric power drills; the slower speeds can result in chipping of your workpiece.
