Benchmark Abrasives 3" Quick Change Surface Preparation Wheels are designed for controlled cleaning, scratch blending, surface conditioning, and finishing over a broader contact area than smaller 2" discs. The non-woven construction conforms to the work surface while the aluminum oxide abrasive helps refine sanding marks, remove light rust and coatings, and clean welding or cutting discoloration without the aggressive cutting action of a conventional coated abrasive disc.
The maroon Fine grade uses aluminum oxide and is especially well suited for cleaning, scratch blending, and finishing stainless steel. The 3" diameter gives you more surface coverage for larger areas while maintaining good control, and the Type R quick-change connection allows fast disc changes when paired with the proper 3" holder.

Use a matching 3" Type R holder or backing pad with the correct connection for your sander. For a tool with a 1/4" collet, use a holder with a matching 1/4" shank. The wheel attaches to the holder, not directly to the tool. Keep the tool speed within both the wheel and holder ratings.

Tips for Better Performance
- Use light, controlled pressure and allow the non-woven abrasive to work against the surface.
- Keep the wheel moving to create a more uniform blended finish.
- Use the larger 3" diameter when more surface coverage is helpful.
- Use Fine for cleaning and scratch refinement before moving to Very Fine when a finer satin finish is desired.
- Avoid excessive pressure, which can slow the tool and reduce control.
Safety Tips & Techniques
- Never exceed the maximum operating speed of 20,000 RPM.
- Use only with a compatible 3" Type R holder rated for the tool and application.
- Inspect the wheel and holder before use and replace damaged or excessively worn components.
