SC-8 Wood Carving Tungsten Carbide Rotary Burr
Product Specification
SC-8 Wood Carving Tungsten Carbide Rotary Burr
The Benchmark Abrasives SC-8 Wood Carving Tungsten Carbide Rotary Burr is a small step up ion size from the SC-5, providing a bigger diameter for less intricate work. It’s designed for fast, controlled material removal on standard 4-1/2" and 5" angle grinders with 5/8"-11 spindle threads. It threads directly onto the grinder with no adapters required, providing a secure, stable connection for shaping, hollowing, and rough carving in wood and foam.
Manufactured from premium tungsten carbide, the SC-8 delivers excellent durability, edge retention, and consistent cutting performance across both softwoods and dense hardwoods. Its aggressive cutting geometry allows rapid stock removal while maintaining control, making it well suited for rough shaping, freehand carving, contouring, and foam modeling. The extended profile also makes it easier to reach recessed areas and complex contours that standard carving tools can’t access.
Designed for efficiency, the direct-mount 5/8"-11 thread minimizes vibration and reduces downtime between tool changes. This burr is ideal for early-stage shaping and carving—not final finishing—and performs effectively on materials such as pine, cedar, oak, maple, beech, and foam before transitioning to sanding or surface-finishing abrasives.

Safety Tips & Techniques:
- Ensure the burr is fully tightened before operation
- Compatible only with 5/8"-11 threaded angle grinders
- Apply light pressure and let the tool do the work. Bearing down on the tool will result in reduced tool life.
- Always wear proper PPE to include (but not limited to) safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, and hand protection. Keep all guards in place on your machine.
- Avoid use on electric power drills; the slower speeds can result in chipping of your workpiece.
- This tool is designed for shaping and rough carving, not final finishing. For best results, follow up with sanding or surface-finishing abrasives once the desired form is achieved.
