1" KNOTTED WIRE END BRUSH - STAINLESS STEEL

When stainless parts need aggressive cleaning in recesses, openings, corners, and other hard-to-reach areas, the 1" Knotted Wire End Brush - Stainless Steel delivers concentrated brushing power with more working coverage than a smaller 3/4" end brush. Built with 0.020" stainless steel knotted wire, it is designed for demanding localized cleanup while helping fabrication shops maintain dedicated stainless tooling.

The knotted wire construction keeps the wire stiff under load, producing a more aggressive cleaning action than flexible crimped wire. Its end-brush geometry directs the working tips forward into recesses, inside surfaces, holes, pockets, and fabricated details instead of spreading the wire across a broad surface.

The larger 1" diameter increases wire contact and cleaning coverage while preserving the tight-access advantage of an end brush. A 1/4" straight shank fits compatible chuck- and collet-equipped rotary tools, and the brush carries a 20,000 RPM maximum rating. For stainless fabrication, welding, maintenance, and repair, it is a strong choice when you need aggressive cleaning exactly where larger brushes cannot reach.

Applications & Performance

Knotted end brushes are designed for aggressive localized cleaning in confined and hard-to-access areas.

Common applications include:

  • Cleaning recesses
  • Inside-surface cleaning
  • Cleaning holes and openings
  • Corner and pocket cleanup
  • Localized rust removal
  • Scale removal
  • Weld-area cleanup
  • Oxidation removal
  • Cleaning around fabricated stainless details
  • Removing stubborn deposits
  • Maintenance and repair work
  • Preparing difficult-to-access areas before coating or finishing

The 1" diameter provides more wire contact than the smaller 3/4" version while still directing the brushing action straight into the area being cleaned.

Use controlled pressure and let the wire tips do the work.

Materials

Especially suited for:

  • Stainless steel
  • Stainless steel weldments
  • Stainless fabricated components
  • Other compatible metals where stainless wire brushing is appropriate

Keep this brush dedicated to stainless steel work when preventing iron cross-contamination is important. A stainless wire brush previously used on carbon steel can pick up ferrous particles and transfer them back to a stainless workpiece.

Store stainless and carbon steel brushes separately for contamination-sensitive applications.

Machine Compatibility

The 1/4" straight shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks, making this end brush a convenient choice for cleaning and surface preparation with compatible corded and cordless drills. It mounts directly in suitable 3/8" and 1/2" drill chucks without a separate arbor adapter.

Compatible examples include:

  • DEWALT® DWD110 — corded drill with a 3/8" chuck.
  • Milwaukee® 0240-20 — corded drill with a 3/8" chuck.
  • Makita® HP1640 — corded hammer drill with a 1/2" chuck; use rotation-only mode.
  • Bosch® GSR12V-300 — cordless drill/driver with a 3/8" chuck.
  • RYOBI® PCL206 — cordless drill/driver with a 1/2" chuck.

Other drills may also be suitable when their chucks securely grip the 1/4" straight shank and their accessory instructions permit this 1" end brush. Keep the tool’s maximum speed within the brush’s 20,000 RPM rating, maintain working clearance, and follow the required shank-insertion instructions. Use rotary drill mode with hammer action switched off.

Safety Tips

  • Never exceed the brush's 20,000 RPM maximum speed.
  • Confirm the machine permits use of this type and diameter of wire brush.
  • Insert and securely clamp the 1/4" shank to the depth specified by the tool and brush manufacturers; keep unsupported shank extension within their limits.
  • Use in rotary mode only; do not use with impact operation.
  • Inspect the brush before every use and replace it if damaged, excessively worn, loose, or distorted.
  • Maintain adequate clearance around the rotating brush and normal wire flare.
  • Wear proper PPE, including eye and face protection, hearing protection, gloves, appropriate clothing, and respiratory protection when required.
  • Keep bystanders away from the work area and direction of rotation.
  • Use controlled pressure. Excessive force can accelerate wire fatigue and brush wear.
  • Allow the tool to reach operating speed before contacting the workpiece.
  • Keep stainless brushes dedicated to stainless work when cross-contamination matters.
  • Follow all operating and safety instructions for both the power tool and wire brush.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is designed for aggressive localized cleaning in recesses, openings, corners, inside surfaces, and other hard-to-access areas.
The 1" diameter provides more wire contact and cleaning coverage while still maintaining the compact end-brush geometry needed for confined areas.
An end brush directs the wire forward into the work area, making it better suited to recesses, holes, pockets, corners, and inside surfaces where broader brush geometries cannot reach effectively.
Knotted wire is stiffer and more aggressive, making it better suited for stubborn rust, scale, weld residue, and heavier localized buildup. Crimped wire provides a more flexible action for lighter cleaning.
Stainless wire is the preferred choice for stainless fabrication when reducing iron cross-contamination is important. Carbon steel wire can transfer ferrous material onto stainless surfaces.
Yes. Its 1/4" straight shank fits compatible three-jaw drill chucks, including standard 3/8" and 1/2" chucks. Compatible examples include DEWALT® DWD110, Milwaukee® 0240-20, Makita® HP1640, Bosch® GSR12V-300, RYOBI® PCL206. Many other drills are suitable too—match the brush size, secure the shank properly, and keep the tool’s maximum speed within the brush’s 20,000 RPM rating. Use rotary drill mode; switch off hammer action on hammer drills.
Yes, provided the drill manufacturer permits this type of wire brush and the chuck securely holds the 1/4" shank. Use rotary mode only.
No. This brush is intended for rotary-only operation, not impact-driver use.
Only if the specific die grinder permits wire-brush use, accepts the 1/4" shank, accommodates the brush geometry, and does not exceed the 20,000 RPM maximum rating.
Yes. Its stiff knotted stainless steel wire is well suited for localized rust, scale, oxidation, weld residue, and stubborn surface buildup on compatible stainless surfaces.
It can clean compatible carbon steel surfaces, but a brush intended to remain dedicated to stainless should not be used on carbon steel first. Doing so can introduce iron contamination that may later transfer to stainless.
Yes. Separate storage helps maintain dedicated tooling and reduces the chance of cross-contamination.
The brush is rated for a maximum of 20,000 RPM. The machine's maximum operating speed must not exceed the brush's rating.
Use controlled pressure and allow the wire tips to perform the cleaning. Excessive force does not improve cleaning efficiency and can accelerate wire fatigue and brush wear.
