Recommended Operating Speed, by Material

Carbide burr operating speed should be selected according to the burr head diameter, material being worked, amount of burr engagement, and desired finish.

It is uncommon for Aluma-Cut carbide burr applications to require the maximum rated speed. The included Benchmark Abrasives Straight Pneumatic Die Grinder operates at up to 25,000 RPM, providing a practical working range for aluminum and non-ferrous grinding, shaping, and deburring.

Begin at a moderate operating speed and increase gradually until the burr produces a clean, controlled cutting action. If material begins to load the flutes or the burr starts to chatter, adjust the operating speed, pressure, or burr engagement.

Safety Tips

• Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses with a face shield as needed, hearing protection, respiratory protection when required, and suitable hand protection.
• Inspect each carbide burr before use. Do not operate damaged, cracked, bent, or excessively worn burrs.
• Make sure the carbide burr shank is securely seated in the grinder collet before operation.
• Disconnect the grinder from the air supply before installing, removing, or changing carbide burrs.
• Never exceed the maximum recommended speed of the carbide burr.
• Air pressure to the included die grinder should never exceed 90 PSI.
• Apply light, controlled pressure and allow the carbide burr to do the cutting.
• Excessive pressure can increase heat, reduce cutting efficiency, and shorten burr life.
• Avoid burying or excessively engaging the burr head in the workpiece.
• Start at a lower operating speed and increase gradually until the desired cutting action is achieved.
• Maintain a secure grip on the grinder and keep the tool under control during startup and operation.
• Avoid using carbide burrs in standard electric drills. Lower operating speeds and reduced control can contribute to poor cutting performance and carbide chipping.
• Use the included pneumatic die grinder for dry applications only.
• Repetitive work, vibration, and prolonged tool use may contribute to hand, wrist, or arm strain.
