2" X 1" FELT FLAP WHEEL WITH 1/4" SHAFT - 10 PACK

Polish small to medium-sized surfaces with greater coverage while keeping the control of a shaft-mounted felt wheel with our 2" x 1" felt flap wheels. Made from layered wool felt and mounted on a 1/4" shaft, these wheels provide a wider working area than the 1" version while still conforming well to curves, contours, edges, and irregular shapes. They are a strong choice when you want more coverage without moving to a larger buffing wheel or disc system.

These felt flap wheels can be used throughout the cut → polish → finish sequence simply by changing compounds. Because the felt contains no abrasive grain, the polishing stage is determined primarily by the compound applied to it. Use an appropriate cutting compound for initial refinement, then progress through intermediate and finishing compounds to develop luster and a high-gloss finish.

Product Features

  • 2" diameter provides more coverage than smaller shaft-mounted felt wheels
  • Flexible felt flaps conform to curved, contoured, and irregular surfaces
  • Can be used through the cut → polish → finish sequence by changing compounds
  • 1/4" shaft mounts directly into compatible drills and die grinders
  • No fixed abrasive grit—the compound determines the level of cut and finish
  • Works with cutting, intermediate, coloring, and finishing compounds
  • 10-pack makes it easy to dedicate separate wheels to different compounds
  • Reusable when kept clean and properly stored
  • Maximum operating speed of 10,000 RPM

Machines Used On

Designed for compatible:

  • Pneumatic die grinders
  • Straight die grinders
  • Electric drills
  • Cordless drills
  • Other rotary tools with a compatible 1/4" collet or chuck

The shaft-mounted design eliminates the need for a separate mandrel or backing pad.

Materials & Applications

Best For

  • Stainless steel
  • Steel
  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Titanium
  • Nickel
  • Other ferrous and non-ferrous metals
  • Compatible plastics and acrylics

Common Applications

  • Multi-stage metal polishing
  • Small and medium-sized parts
  • Curved and contoured surfaces
  • Edges and irregular shapes
  • Initial polishing with an appropriate cutting compound
  • Intermediate luster development
  • Final high-gloss polishing
  • Localized polishing on fabricated parts

Polishing Performance

Cut Compound Dependent
Gloss Compound Dependent – Very High
Stage Cutting → Intermediate Polish → Final Finish
Felt Firmness Flexible / Controlled
Coverage Medium
Best For Handheld multi-stage polishing with greater coverage than a 1" wheel

Tip: The felt wheel itself does not have a fixed cutting level. A more aggressive compound increases cutting action, while finer compounds move the same felt media toward higher luster and final finishing.

2" X 1" FELT FLAP WHEEL WITH 1/4" SHAFT

For best results, dedicate one felt flap wheel to each compound to prevent cross-contamination between polishing stages.

Safety Tips & Techniques

  • Never exceed the 10,000 RPM maximum operating speed.
  • Confirm the 1/4" shaft is fully secured before use.
  • Apply compound sparingly rather than heavily loading the felt.
  • Use controlled pressure and keep the wheel moving to limit heat buildup.
  • Clean the workpiece before changing compounds.
  • Use a separate wheel for each compound whenever possible.
  • Wear appropriate eye, hearing, respiratory, and hand protection.
  • Use dry only.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Felt can be used throughout the entire polishing sequence. The compound determines whether the wheel performs an initial cutting, intermediate-polishing, coloring, or final-finishing role.
The 2" diameter provides more surface coverage than the 1" version while still maintaining good control on curved, contoured, and localized surfaces.
Choose the 1" wheel for tighter spaces and finer detail work. Choose the 2" wheel when you want faster coverage on larger areas while still using a compact shaft-mounted polishing tool.
Yes. When paired with the appropriate cutting compound, felt can perform the initial polishing stage before progressing to finer compounds.
Yes. These wheels contain no abrasive grain. The selected compound provides the cutting and finishing action.
Yes. We recommend one wheel per compound to prevent coarse compound residue from contaminating finer polishing stages.
The 1/4" shaft is designed for compatible die grinders, rotary drills, and other rotary tools with a 1/4" collet or chuck.
These wheels work well on stainless steel, steel, aluminum, brass, copper, titanium, nickel, and other compatible metals. They can also be used on compatible plastics and acrylics with the appropriate compound.
No. Deep scratches and significant surface defects should be removed with sanding or another appropriate abrasive-preparation step first.
The maximum operating speed is 10,000 RPM.
