Product Specification
8" X 1" X 5/8" BENCH GRINDER WIRE WHEEL - CARBON STEEL
For heavier-duty stationary cleaning and deburring, the 8" x 1" x 5/8" Bench Grinder Wire Wheel - Carbon Steel gives you a larger working diameter and wider 1" face for faster coverage on steel parts, hardware, brackets, fabricated components, and other shop workpieces. Its crimped carbon steel wire provides flexible brushing action for rust, oxidation, deposits, and general surface contamination on compatible ferrous metals.
The crimped wire construction flexes as the workpiece is brought into the wheel, producing a more conformable and less aggressive cleaning action than a stiff knotted-wire brush. The wider 1" working face gives you more contact area for cleaning edges, faces, contours, and larger components, making this a strong choice for fabrication shops, maintenance departments, and repair work.
This wheel measures 8" in diameter with a 1" face width and carries a 4,500 RPM maximum rating. The source lists a 5/8" to 2" mounting range with additional arbor adapters available, allowing the wheel to be configured for compatible stationary machines when the correct bushing and mounting hardware are used.

Applications & Performance
This 8" bench-grinder wire wheel is designed for stationary cleaning and deburring of workpieces where a larger wheel and wider face can improve coverage and productivity.
Common applications include:
- Rust removal
- Oxidation cleanup
- Surface contamination removal
- Light deburring
- Edge cleanup
- Cleaning fabricated steel parts
- Cleaning bolts, hardware, and fasteners
- Weld-area cleanup
- Cleaning brackets and assemblies
- Maintenance and repair work
- General ferrous-metal surface preparation
The larger 8" diameter and 1" face width provide more working surface than smaller bench-grinder wheels, making it easier to clean larger components efficiently while maintaining controlled contact.
Use steady, controlled pressure and allow the wire tips to do the cleaning.
Materials
Recommended for cleaning and surface preparation on compatible ferrous materials, including:
- Carbon steel
- Mild steel
- Structural steel
- Cast iron
- Wrought iron
- Other compatible ferrous metal surfaces
Keep carbon steel brushes dedicated to ferrous work when cross-contamination matters. For stainless-steel applications where iron contamination must be minimized, use a dedicated stainless steel wire brush.
Machine Compatibility
For stationary wire-brushing machines that accept a 8" wheel with a 1" working face and the correct arbor fit. The machine’s maximum shaft speed must not exceed 4,500 RPM or the marked wheel rating, whichever is lower.
Compatible examples include:
- DEWALT® DW758 — 8" bench grinder; 5/8" arbor; 3,600 RPM.
- RIKON® 80-805 — 8" bench grinder; 5/8" arbor; 1,750 RPM.
Use the correct 5/8" mounting configuration. Confirm total hub width, flange support and guard clearance; the 1" working face is not necessarily the hub thickness. Other stationary machines may be suitable with the correct wheel-approved arbor adapter.
Safety Tips
- Never exceed the wheel's 4,500 RPM maximum speed.
- Confirm the bench grinder accepts an 8" diameter, 1" wide wire wheel.
- Use only the correct arbor or reducing-bushing configuration for the machine.
- Make sure the wheel is centered, fully seated, and securely clamped by the grinder flanges.
- Verify adequate flange support, hub engagement, and guard clearance before operation.
- Inspect the wheel before every use and replace it if damaged, excessively worn, loose, or distorted.
- Rotate the wheel by hand before startup to confirm clearance.
- Maintain appropriate guards and work-rest settings according to the grinder manufacturer's instructions.
- Wear proper PPE, including eye and face protection, hearing protection, gloves, appropriate clothing, and respiratory protection when required.
- Stand clear of the wheel's plane during initial startup.
- Use controlled pressure and do not force the workpiece into the wheel.
- Follow all operating and safety instructions for both the bench grinder and wire wheel.
