Keep the bit at approximately 90° to the work surface.
Progress through the steps gradually rather than forcing the bit.
Use steady pressure and allow the cutting edges to do the work.
Select drilling speed according to the material and hole diameter.
Larger hole diameters generally require slower, more controlled operation.
Use an appropriate cutting lubricant when drilling metals.
Stop the tool before clearing chips; use a brush, not your hands.
Do not use hammer action when drilling with a hammer drill/driver.

Up to 1/4" in suitable metal, provided the selected step is long enough to pass through the workpiece without engaging the next diameter. Choose the drilling speed and lubricant for your material and hole size.
Select speed according to both the material and the diameter being cut. Because this bit reaches 1-3/8", slower and more controlled operation becomes increasingly important as you progress through the larger steps.
