GRINDER HOOD

The Benchmark Abrasives Grinder Hood was built for fabricators who want more protection, comfort, and versatility than a basic face shield can deliver. Designed to surround the face while maintaining a wide, clear view of the work, the hood helps protect against sparks, metal particles, grinding debris, and dust generated during aggressive cutting, grinding, sanding, and fabrication. At just 13.7 oz with the standard clear lens, it delivers substantial coverage without the bulk of a traditional welding-style helmet.

What really sets the Grinder Hood apart is how far you can take it beyond basic grinding protection. There is room inside for the Benchmark half-mask respirator, while Benchmark behind-the-head earmuffs work around the hood without adding another headband across the top. The replaceable inner lens can be changed from clear to darker shades, and the optional visor clip allows a second shaded outer visor to be added. Combine the #5 inner lens with the #8 outer visor to achieve Shade 13 protection, giving the same hood the versatility to move from everyday grinding and cutting into appropriate light-welding applications.

The included clear lens is intended for grinding, cutting, and similar face-protection applications. When additional shade protection is required, the Grinder Hood can be configured with darker inner lenses and the optional outer visor system.

The Benchmark PPE System

The Grinder Hood is designed as the foundation of a coordinated Benchmark PPE system rather than as a stand-alone piece of equipment. The hood, Benchmark half-mask respirator, and behind-the-head hearing protection can be worn together, allowing face, respiratory, and hearing protection to work as one practical shop setup.

The Benchmark Abrasives Grinder Hood PPE Combo Kit combines the Grinder Hood with a replacement lens, half-mask respirator, P100 filters, and behind-the-head earmuffs. The respirator fits into the open front area of the hood, while the behind-the-head earmuff design keeps another headband from competing for space on top of the user's head.

Always verify the fit and seal of each individual PPE component after the complete system is put on.

Build Out Your Grinder Hood

One of the biggest advantages of the Grinder Hood is its modular lens system. Instead of owning separate face protection for every job, you can change the inner lens, add the visor clip, and install an outer visor to adapt the hood to different applications.

Replacement Inner Lenses

The hood comes standard with a clear #1 inner lens for grinding and cutting applications.

Additional inner lens options include:

• #5

The darker inner lenses allow the hood to become part of a shaded configuration for applications requiring additional light protection.

Changing the Inner Lens

Swapping the inner lens is just as easy. Use the side retaining clips—conveniently marked L and R—to release the lens, remove it, drop in the #1 Clear, #3, or #5 inner lens, and lock the clips back into place.

That makes it easy to go from clear grinding visibility to darker shade configurations without changing your entire hood.

Grinder Hood Visor Clip

The optional Grinder Hood Visor Clip mounts above the inner lens and allows a second outer visor to be installed in front of it.

This converts the Grinder Hood from a standard single-lens grinding hood into a configurable dual-lens system.

Shaded Outer Visors

Once the visor clip is installed, shaded outer visor lenses can be added to further increase protection.

Available outer visor shades include:

Reach Shade 13 Protection

For the maximum shade configuration of the Grinder Hood system, combine:

#5 Inner Lens + #8 Outer Visor = Shade 13 Protection

This gives the Grinder Hood significantly more versatility than a fixed clear face shield, allowing the same hood used for grinding and cutting to be configured for appropriate light-welding applications requiring higher shade protection.

Select the shade appropriate for the welding process and operating amperage.

Safety Tips

• Inspect the hood and lenses before use and replace cracked, damaged, heavily scratched, or otherwise compromised components.
• Keep lenses clean to maintain clear visibility.
• Verify that respirator straps, hearing protection, safety glasses, and the hood do not interfere with one another.
• When using a tight-fitting respirator, confirm that the complete PPE setup does not disturb the respirator seal.
• Keep all required machine guards installed and properly positioned.
• Select respiratory and hearing protection according to the actual material, contaminant, exposure, and work environment.
• The included clear lens is for grinding and cutting applications and does not provide the shade required for welding.
• For welding applications, install the appropriate darker inner lens, visor clip, and outer visor combination for the required shade.
• The #5 inner lens combined with the #8 outer visor provides Shade 13 protection.
• Do not use the Grinder Hood for sandblasting.
