5-PIECE INTERLEAF AND NONWOVEN FINISHING DRUM SET
The Benchmark Abrasives 5-Piece Interleaf and Nonwoven Finishing Drum Set gives fabricators a complete progression from controlled blending through final surface conditioning using both interleaf and nonwoven media. The set combines two interleaf sanding drums for added cutting action with three nonwoven drums for progressively finer surface refinement, making it a versatile choice for smoothing scratches, refining fabrication marks, and moving a workpiece toward a more uniform finished surface.
The interleaf drums combine coated abrasive sanding flaps with surface conditioning material to sand and condition in the same step, while the nonwoven drums focus on blending and finer finishing with less aggressive cutting action. Together, the five-drum set provides a practical sequence for applications where the starting surface may need more correction before moving into finer conditioning and finish refinement.

Features
- Five-piece finishing progression combines interleaf and nonwoven media in one set.
- Interleaf drums provide more cutting action by combining coated abrasive sanding flaps with surface conditioning material.
- Nonwoven drums provide controlled blending and finer surface refinement with less aggressive material removal.
- Helps bridge the gap between intermediate sanding and final surface conditioning.
- Includes 240 and 320 interleaf drums plus 320, 400, and 600 nonwoven drums.
- Wide 4" working face covers larger flat and contoured surfaces efficiently.
- Designed for compatible portable surface-finishing and drum-sanding machines using the appropriate keyed mounting setup.
Set Includes
- 240 Grit Interleaf Sanding Drum
- 320 Grit Interleaf Sanding Drum
- 320 Grit Nonwoven Surface Conditioning Drum
- 400 Grit Nonwoven Surface Conditioning Drum
- 600 Grit Nonwoven Surface Conditioning Drum
Applications & Performance
Designed for fine blending through final surface conditioning.
- Scratch refinement
- Intermediate finishing
- Surface conditioning
- Satin finishing
- Blending fabrication and machining marks
- Refining surfaces after sanding or grinding
- Preparing surfaces for finer finishing
- Final finish refinement
- Preparing surfaces for polishing or coating
Materials include:
- Steel
- Stainless steel
- Cast iron
- Copper
- Wood
- Fiberglass
- Plastic
- Hard rubber
- Stone
For stainless steel work, keep abrasives used on stainless separate from abrasives previously used on carbon steel to reduce the risk of iron contamination and rust spotting.
Which Drum Should I Use?
240 Grit Interleaf – Best for stronger scratch refinement and intermediate finishing when more cutting action is still needed before moving into finer conditioning.
320 Grit Interleaf – Best for finer interleaf blending where a smoother transition between sanding and surface conditioning is desired.
320 Grit Nonwoven – Best for controlled surface conditioning and finer scratch refinement after the interleaf steps.
400 Grit Nonwoven – Best for advanced finish refinement where lower cutting action and a smoother surface are desired.
600 Grit Nonwoven – Best for the finest surface refinement in the set and preparing an already well-finished surface for polishing or other final finishing steps.
Use the interleaf drums first when additional cutting action is needed, then move into the nonwoven drums for progressively finer surface conditioning.
Machine Compatibility
Designed for portable surface finishing machines, linear grinders, burnishers, contouring grinders, and drum sanding machines.
Compatible examples include:
- Eastwood® Contour SCT® (21145)
- HERCULES® HE68 Surface Conditioning Tool (70979)
- Metabo® SE 17-200 RT with the appropriate keyed drum arbor
An adapter or additional mounting hardware may be required. Use a setup that securely holds a 4-1/2" diameter x 4" wide drum, allows proper guard clearance, and operates at or below 4,000 RPM.
Safety Tips
- Never exceed the drum's maximum speed of 4,000 RPM. Maximum RPM is a safety limit, not a recommended finishing speed.
- Use dry only.
- Start with light pressure and allow the abrasive and surface conditioning material to work.
- Excessive pressure can generate unnecessary heat, deform nonwoven media, and shorten drum life.
- Avoid dwelling in one area, especially on heat-sensitive workpieces.
- Disconnect the machine from its power source before installing, removing, or inspecting a drum.
- Confirm that each drum is properly seated and securely retained before operation.
- Stop immediately if abnormal vibration occurs and inspect the drum, mounting hardware, and setup before continuing.
- Keep machine guards and auxiliary handles installed as specified by the tool manufacturer.
- Wear appropriate eye, hearing, respiratory, and hand protection for the material and application.
- Secure the workpiece and keep loose clothing, hair, and hands away from rotating components.
- Do not use these wide sanding drums on electric drills.
