Tell us about yourself - what inspired you to get into your trade? And how long? Hello all you rock stars. My name is Diesel. I'm from hamilton Ontario Canada. I have to say I got inspired by one of the best Tig artists, his name is Mattia Bross. I was late to the IG party & had started my account approximately 2.5 years ago & came across his work, This is when I started talking to him. Before this poInt I had never Tig welded before, "Mattia told me to get a Tig welder & start practicing & in no time I would be as good as he was." So I invested in my 1st Tig welder & started my journey. It's been a super slow learning process because I only get to Tig weld approximately 4-6 hours on Saturdays. In my opinion I will never be as good as Mattia but I will never give up trying to get close to his level. May he R.I.Paradise 2020. I am approaching 2 years in February doing Tig art. I am having a blast learning as I continue to better myself.

What keeps you motivated throughout the day? My motivation comes from trying to be creatively different from everyone else, & always trying to learn & be the best i can be. |
What is your favorite shop tool and why? The acetylene torch is one of my favorites because I like playing with fire. "LoL" Torch cutting is exciting. I wish i had a plasma cutter there's so much you can do with it. |
What's your favorite piece that you've worked on? This question is very difficult to answer because each piece is unique & I take pride in my work. If I had to choose I would have to go with DA BEARS tig art that I made for Brian @bluedemon |
If you could have any job as it relates to question 1 what would it be and what would you do with that? I could see myself as a full time Tig artist because I could showcase my creativity. |
What BA product is your favorite and why?
I have not had the opportunity to use many BA products thus far. But I have used the BA jumbo zirconia flap discs.
|
What BA product surprised you in terms of quality - what about it set it apart from the competition?
The Zirconia flap discs that I have used are such a high quality product & beefy looking. They feel so much easier to polish / clean any surface without worrying about the center stud/ Fastener hitting the surface being polished or cleaned. The flap discs are approx .500"-.625" thick so you can actually use the full flap disc surface. Just a great product. I am excited to try more BA products.
|
What tips and tricks do you have for us that might be different or eye opening for others to try with BA product?
At the moment unfortunately I have no tips, but as I get to use more BA products I will definitely share in the near future. |
If there was one person you could collaborate with - who would it be and why?
I would like to collaborate with @theeupcycler, because he is very creative & has amazing art.
|
Do you have any advice for the next generation that you wish you had when you first started?
Don't be afraid to try new things, & it's ok to fail but get back up & do it again. "Practice makes perfect." I took a giant leap from being a sous chef to welding fabricating, I wish I had done this earlier in life. But I had insecurities of not doing well. |
What are your future plans for your shop?
My plans are to 1 day have my home garage set up to do my Tig art. Currently my workplace has been very generous with letting me do what I enjoy doing.
|
Thanks for sitting with us and sharing your story with the community - is there anything you'd like to add?
Thank you for the opportunity to feature me on the BA website & allowing me to share my story. I also want to thank @welding_okie & @dabndaddo for also taking time to help me with issues I have had in the past & making me a better artist today. I'll never forget my homies. Thank you! |
A Note From Leo
Thanks for sharing your story with us, Diesel! I think it's pretty rad that Mattis Bros went out of his way to help ya out when you started. His death was a shock to us all and I was honored to be able to interview him right before his death. Cheers to the both of you!
