5" X 7/8" ALUMINUM OXIDE RESIN FIBER DISC – 25 PACK
Benchmark Abrasives 5" aluminum oxide resin fiber discs deliver dependable cutting performance at an economical price for everyday grinding, blending, deburring, and surface preparation. Aluminum oxide is a versatile general-purpose abrasive that performs well across a wide range of shop applications, making these discs a practical choice when you need reliable performance without stepping up to the cost of premium zirconia or ceramic grain.
Each disc combines aluminum oxide abrasive with a heat-resistant resin bond and heavy-duty vulcanized fiber backing. The rigid fiber backing supports the abrasive under grinding pressure, helping transfer power from the grinder to the workpiece for controlled stock removal. Available from aggressive 24 grit through finer 120 grit, the range covers heavy material removal, weld leveling, blending, and pre-finish surface preparation.
These discs are designed for use on right-angle grinders with a compatible 5" backing pad. A backing pad is required and sold separately.

Machines Used On
- Right-Angle Grinders
- Angle Grinders
Backing Pad Required: Use with a compatible 5" x 5/8"-11 resin fiber disc backing pad. Backing pads are sold separately.
Always make sure the disc, backing pad, and grinder are compatible in diameter, arbor, and operating speed. Never exceed the maximum RPM of the lowest-rated component in the system.
Applications
Ideal for general-purpose grinding and surface preparation applications including:
- Weld removal and weld blending
- Stock removal
- Beveling and edge preparation
- Deburring
- Rust and corrosion removal
- Paint and coating removal
- Cleaning and surface preparation
- Blending and smoothing
Materials
Commonly used on:
- Carbon Steel
- Stainless Steel
- Cast Iron
- Titanium
- Nickel
- Wrought Iron
- Copper
- Fiberglass
- Plastics and Composites
- Hard Rubber
- Wood
- Stone
The current Benchmark listing specifically identifies ferrous metals, copper, fiberglass, plastic, hard rubber, wood, and stone as supported materials.
Tip: Lower grits cut faster but leave a deeper scratch pattern. For a smoother finish, start with the grit needed for material removal and progressively work through finer grits.
Aluminum Oxide vs. Zirconia & Ceramic
Aluminum oxide is the economical, versatile choice for routine grinding and general shop work.
Zirconia is the better choice when you need longer life and stronger performance under sustained grinding pressure, particularly for demanding steel applications.
Ceramic is the premium choice for high-production grinding, stainless steel, hard alloys, and applications where productivity and abrasive life are the priority.
Safety Tips & Techniques
- Always use a compatible backing pad specifically designed for resin fiber discs.
- Inspect the disc and backing pad before use. Do not use damaged, cracked, torn, or moisture-compromised discs.
- Never exceed the maximum RPM marked for the disc, backing pad, or grinder. The lowest-rated component determines the maximum safe operating speed.
- Keep the grinder guard properly installed and positioned.
-
Use appropriate eye and face protection, hearing protection, gloves, protective clothing, and respiratory protection for the material being worked.
- Keep the grinder moving across the workpiece to help control heat and avoid excessive gouging.
- Store fiber discs in a clean, dry environment to protect the backing from moisture and damage.
