Kahne Loftus (Kahne's Kare Packages)

|
Name: Kahne Loftus
Your Specialties: Sending care packages overseas to deployed US Servicemember's |
|
Kahne, you started this mission at just 10 years old. What inspired you to take action and begin sending care packages overseas? When I realized that our servicemembers don't get to come home for the holidays. I didn't like that they were alone and wanted them to feel loved and appreciated. |

How has this project helped you personally through the loss of your uncle, and what keeps you passionate about continuing it year after year? Over the years, while sending care packages, I have met some really amazing people, whom have become family to us. It reminds me of the love I had with my Uncle and I know he would be proud. I know that the only mail some of them ever get, is the boxes that we send. I want to keep making the holidays special for them all |

You’ve grown this from just 40 packages in the first year to hundreds for soldiers and even K9 teams. What has been the most memorable response you’ve received from a service member? I received a flag in the mail, that had been flown on the base over in Afghanistan, from one of my new brothers. |

What does a “Kahne’s Kare Package” typically include, and how do you decide what goes inside? My Mom Darcy has done a lot of research on what they lack while deployed, and what are some items they want to remind them of home. A typical box consists of: Individual snacks items (meat snacks are huge hit). nuts, stockings filled with candy, and small type of toys for fun (Mini Legos, cars, trucks). They each receive a wrapped gift, and that all depends on donations for the year on what we send. Toiletries, shave cream, q-tips, deodorant stuff like that so they don't have to buy at the BX. Common room boxes include: Board games, Card games, Lego sets, models, FUN STUFF. |
|
Your work not only helps soldiers feel supported, but it also connects communities. How do friends, family, and local supporters get involved with your mission? They help in all aspects. Packing boxes, coming to fundraisers, donating supplies to build things we sell to raise funds, and donating items for the care packages |

This year marks the very first O.F.F. (Off-Road Farm Fest) fundraiser. Can you tell us more about the event and how it ties into raising support for the care packages? This event has really brought together the 4x4 community to help us with our care packages this year, and is going to be fun. Truck pull, timed course, drags and more |
|
Looking back at your journey, what has surprised you most about running a cause at such a young age? All the work that goes into it and realizing that it is worth it. Our servicemembers deserve the best. |

If someone wanted to help out, either through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, what’s the best way for them to get involved? Join our Facebook page "Kahne's Kare Packages". My mom keeps it up to date on events and our deadlines and Amazon wish list. |

What’s your dream for the future of Kahne’s Kare Packages, and what impact do you hope to leave on both the soldiers you support and the people who hear your story? That no matter how heartbroken you get, you can always turn sadness into something great! |

Thanks for sharing you story with us, Kahne! I think what you’re doing is such a great cause. I’m sure you brighten up our troops day when they receive any of your kare packages, so thank you!
