Tell us about yourself - what inspired you to get into your trade? And how long? I’ve been in the automotive industry for about 24 years. At 15 years old, I got my first job at a local motorcycle shop as a mechanic, and my love of creating and building began. I went away to trade school to pursue the motorcycle industry and immediately after graduating I opened up a motorcycle shop. I did that for about 4-5 years and then got an opportunity to move over to Scorpion Motorsports as a Production and mechanical manager. At Scorpion I would oversee production of these rad handbuilt 3 wheeled cars powered by motorcycle engines. I honed my metal fabrication skills while over at Scorpion Motorsports, and man I never looked back. I’ve been fabricating now officially in my own shop for a few years now, primarily focusing on custom trucks and hotrods.

What keeps you motivated throughout the day? I love seeing designs and ideas come to life. I also constantly want to see my skillset improve, and the more I work, the more I pick up new techniques, ideas, and ways to fabricate. So the self improvement everyday and learning really keeps me motivated. |
What is your favorite shop tool and why? I have a Dewalt 20v angle grinder and I use it everyday. Being cordless, it was a game changer for me because a lot of the time, I’m under a chassis and in an awkward position grinding and having a power wire to worry about was always an issue. |

What's your favorite piece that you've worked on? I absolutely love 90’s vehicles, and specifically Chevy trucks. My good friend hired me to build his 1994 chevy pickup as his custom “shop truck”. He owns an amazing powder coating shop here in Miami, called “Miami Powder”. So it was a dream to build his truck with some cool totally custom parts I fabricated. He obviously powder coated all the custom parts and components to show off his work as well as mine. I will forever be grateful that he gave me the opportunity to build that truck. My favorite part on the truck was the fully custom bed. It has a factory raised floor with a hidden motorized access hatch that can be opened up for shows; to show off the suspension & chassis work, or for serviceability and maintenance to be done. |
If you could have any job as it relates to question 1 what would it be and what would you do with that? I’m doing exactly what I’ve always dreamed to be doing and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. |

What BA product is your favorite and why?
The 4.5” flap wheels are the best! They are by far the best quality flap wheels I have ever used, they last forever!

What tips and tricks do you have for us that might be different or eye opening for others to try with BA product?
I always preach prep work! Cleaning materials prior to welding and fit up makes the world of a difference in your finished products. Use your abrasives and clean your metals well before welding!
|
If there was one person you could collaborate with - who would it be and why?
I would say Boyd Coddington. I grew up watching him pioneer the Hot Rod industry. I could definitely have learned a lot having the ability to work alongside a legend!

Do you have any advice for the next generation that you wish you had when you first started?
Don’t be scared to make a change, if you're not happy where you are at now, you're the only one that can change that. Take the risk, take the plunge, work hard and you can make anything happen!
|
What are your future plans for your shop?
I’m sure it will grow a little more, but my main focus is to keep quality up and keep these builds special to me and the customers. I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity!

A Note From Leo
Thanks for sharing your story with us, George! That "secret" hatch in the truck bed is a pretty cool concept! Looking forward to seeing more of your fab work.
